Ingredients
1 cup (2 sticks) unsalted butter, softened
1/2 cup granulated sugar
2 cups all-purpose flour
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, cream together the softened unsalted butter and granulated sugar using an electric mixer until light, fluffy, and pale (about 2-3 minutes).
Step 3: Gradually add the all-purpose flour to the butter-sugar mixture, mixing on low speed until just combined and a soft dough forms. Do not overmix.
Step 4: Roll small portions of the dough (about 1 inch in diameter) into smooth balls and place them onto the prepared baking sheet, leaving an inch between each cookie.
Step 5: Gently flatten each dough ball with the palm of your hand or the bottom of a glass. Optionally, use a fork to create a crisscross pattern on top.
Step 6: Bake in the preheated oven for 12-15 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden. Keep an eye on them to prevent over-browning.
Step 7: Remove the cookies from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Serve and enjoy!
Notes
For an extra touch, sprinkle a tiny bit of sea salt on top before baking to enhance the buttery flavor. These cookies are also excellent with a dash of vanilla extract added with the butter and sugar.
