Ingredients
6 cups Granny Smith apples, peeled and sliced
2 cups fresh or frozen cranberries
3/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tablespoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground nutmeg
1 1/2 cups old-fashioned rolled oats
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 cup packed light brown sugar
3/4 cup unsalted butter, cold and cubed
1/2 teaspoon salt
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and grease a 9×13 inch baking dish.
Step 2: In a large bowl, toss the sliced apples and cranberries with granulated sugar, 1/2 tablespoon of cinnamon, and nutmeg until well coated.
Step 3: Spread the fruit mixture evenly into the prepared baking dish.
Step 4: In another bowl, combine the oats, flour, brown sugar, remaining cinnamon, and salt.
Step 5: Use a pastry cutter or your fingers to work the cold butter into the dry ingredients until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs with some pea-sized pieces.
Step 6: Sprinkle the oat topping evenly over the fruit layer in the dish.
Step 7: Bake for 40-45 minutes, or until the topping is golden brown and the fruit juices are bubbling around the edges.
Step 8: Let the apple cranberry crisp recipe cool for at least 15 minutes before serving to allow the juices to thicken.
Notes
For extra crunch, add 1/2 cup of chopped pecans to the topping. Ensure your butter is cold for the best texture.
