Ingredients
2 cans (21 oz each) apple pie filling
1 box (15.25 oz) yellow cake mix
1 cup (2 sticks) salted butter, thinly sliced
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch glass baking dish.
Step 2: Spread the two cans of apple pie filling into the bottom of the prepared dish in an even layer.
Step 3: Sprinkle ground cinnamon over the top of the apple filling for extra warmth and spice.
Step 4: Pour the dry cake mix over the apples, spreading it evenly to the edges. Do not stir.
Step 5: Place the thin slices of butter across the top of the cake mix, covering as much surface area as possible.
Step 6: Bake for 45 to 50 minutes, or until the top is golden brown and the apple filling is bubbling up around the edges.
Step 7: Allow the cake to cool for at least 10-15 minutes before serving warm with ice cream.
Notes
Ensure the butter is sliced very thin to cover the dry spots of the cake mix for the best texture.
