1/4 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 cups tart apples, peeled and finely chopped
1/4 cup hot water

Step 2: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
Step 3: Beat in the egg and molasses until well combined and smooth.
Step 4: In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and salt.

Step 7: Spread the batter evenly into the prepared baking pan and smooth the top with a spatula.
Step 8: Bake for 30-35 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Step 9: Allow the bars to cool completely in the pan before cutting into squares and serving.
