Ingredients
4 cups mixed berries (fresh or frozen, e.g., cranberries, raspberries, blackberries)
3 cups water
1/4 cup pure maple syrup (adjust to taste)
2 cinnamon sticks
2 whole star anise pods
4 whole cloves
Instructions
Step 1: In a medium saucepan, combine the mixed berries, water, maple syrup, cinnamon sticks, star anise, and whole cloves.
Step 2: Bring the mixture to a boil over medium-high heat.
Step 3: Reduce the heat to low and simmer gently for 15-20 minutes, allowing the berries to break down and the spices to infuse their flavors.
Step 4: Carefully strain the liquid through a fine-mesh sieve into a heatproof bowl or jug. Press the berries gently with the back of a spoon to extract as much juice as possible. Discard the solids and whole spices.
Step 5: Taste the Autumn Berry Drink and add more maple syrup if you prefer a sweeter beverage.
Step 6: Serve the Autumn Berry Drink warm in mugs. Garnish with a fresh cinnamon stick or a few extra berries, if desired.
Notes
For an even richer flavor, you can let the strained liquid steep with the spices for an additional 10 minutes before removing them. This drink is also fantastic chilled and served over ice, or as a base for sparkling water for a refreshing mocktail.
