Ingredients
1 (8-10 lb) bone-in spiral-cut smoked ham
1 cup packed dark brown sugar
1/2 cup honey
2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
1/4 cup apple cider
1/2 teaspoon ground cloves
1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 325°F (165°C) and move the oven rack to the lowest position.
Step 2: Remove the ham from its packaging and discard the plastic disk covering the bone. Place the ham cut-side down in a large roasting pan.
Step 3: Pour the apple cider into the bottom of the pan and cover the ham tightly with heavy-duty aluminum foil to ensure no steam escapes.
Step 4: Bake the ham for 12-15 minutes per pound, or until a meat thermometer inserted into the thickest part (not touching the bone) reaches 130°F.
Step 5: While the ham bakes, prepare the glaze by whisking together brown sugar, honey, mustard, cloves, and cinnamon in a small saucepan over medium heat until smooth and bubbling.
Step 6: Remove the ham from the oven and discard the foil. Increase the oven temperature to 400°F (200°C).
Step 7: Generously brush the glaze over the entire surface and between the slices of the ham. Return to the oven uncovered for 15-20 minutes until the glaze is caramelized.
Step 8: Remove the ham from the oven and tent loosely with foil. Let it rest for at least 20 minutes before serving to ensure the Baked ham recipe remains juicy.
Notes
Always use a meat thermometer to ensure the ham is heated through without being overcooked. Resting is essential for moisture retention.
