Ingredients
1/2 cup good quality mayonnaise (full-fat)
1/2 cup sour cream (full-fat)
1/4 cup buttermilk (or milk, plus 1/2 tsp lemon juice)
4 oz blue cheese, crumbled (e.g., Gorgonzola, Stilton, or your favorite)
1 tbsp fresh lemon juice
1 tsp apple cider vinegar
1/2 tsp Worcestershire sauce
1/4 tsp garlic powder
Salt to taste (start with 1/4 tsp)
Freshly ground black pepper to taste (start with 1/8 tsp)
Instructions
Step 1: In a medium bowl, combine the mayonnaise, sour cream, buttermilk, fresh lemon juice, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, and garlic powder. Whisk until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
Step 2: Gently fold in about 3 ounces of the crumbled blue cheese. If you prefer a smoother dressing, you can blend about half of the blue cheese into the wet ingredients using an immersion blender or food processor before stirring in the rest. For this blue cheese dressing recipe, I recommend leaving plenty of chunks for texture.
Step 3: Season the blue cheese dressing recipe with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste. Start with 1/4 teaspoon of salt and 1/8 teaspoon of pepper, then taste and adjust. Remember that blue cheese is naturally salty, so be mindful not to over-salt.
Step 4: Once seasoned to your liking, gently stir in the remaining 1 ounce of crumbled blue cheese. This ensures you have distinct pockets of blue cheese flavor and texture throughout the dressing.
Step 5: Cover the bowl tightly and refrigerate the blue cheese dressing recipe for at least 30 minutes, or preferably an hour, before serving. This allows the flavors to meld and deepen, resulting in an even more delicious dressing. For longer storage and easy serving, I highly recommend using quality Basics Glass Food Storage containers. The longer it sits, the better the blue cheese dressing recipe tastes!
Notes
For the best flavor, make this blue cheese dressing recipe at least an hour in advance and let it chill in the refrigerator. This allows the flavors to fully meld. Feel free to adjust the amount of blue cheese to your preference. If you don’t have buttermilk, you can use regular milk mixed with a tiny bit of lemon juice or white vinegar (let sit for 5 minutes) as a substitute.
