Blueberry Lemon Bliss Trifle

A show-stopping, refreshing trifle featuring layers of zesty lemon-infused cream, plump blueberries, and delicate ladyfingers soaked in a bright lemon syrup. This blueberry lemon bliss trifle recipe is the perfect balance of sweet and tart, ideal for any gathering.

  • Total Time: 4 hours 30 minutes (includes chilling)
  • Yield: 10-12 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

1 cup cold heavy cream
1/2 cup powdered sugar
Zest of 1 lemon (for cream)
8 ounces cream cheese, softened
1/4 cup granulated sugar (for cream cheese)
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice (for cream cheese)
2 cups fresh blueberries
1 tablespoon granulated sugar (for blueberries)
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (for blueberries)
24–30 ladyfingers (or 1 pound cake, sliced)
For the Lemon Syrup:
1/2 cup water
1/4 cup granulated sugar
Zest of 1 lemon (for syrup)
2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice (for syrup)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare the Lemon Syrup. In a small saucepan, combine 1/2 cup water, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, and the zest of one lemon. Bring to a gentle simmer, stirring until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and stir in 2 tablespoons of fresh lemon juice. Let it cool completely.
Step 2: Make the Lemon Cream. In a large bowl, whisk together 1 cup cold heavy cream, 1/2 cup powdered sugar, and the zest of one lemon until stiff peaks form. In a separate bowl, combine 8 ounces softened cream cheese, 1/4 cup granulated sugar, and 2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice. Beat until smooth and creamy. Gently fold the whipped cream into the cream cheese mixture until just combined. Be careful not to overmix.
Step 3: Prepare the Blueberries. In a medium bowl, gently toss 2 cups fresh blueberries with 1 tablespoon granulated sugar and 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice. Let sit for 10 minutes to allow the flavors to meld.
Step 4: Assemble the Trifle Layers. Choose a beautiful trifle dish or a large glass bowl. Start by arranging a single layer of ladyfingers (or pound cake slices) at the bottom. You may need to break them to fit.
Step 5: Drizzle and Spread. Drizzle about one-third of the cooled lemon syrup evenly over the ladyfingers.
Step 6: Layer the Cream and Berries. Carefully spread one-third of the lemon cream over the syrup-soaked ladyfingers. Then, spoon one-third of the prepared blueberries over the cream layer.
Step 7: Repeat the Layers. Repeat steps 4-6 twice more, finishing with a generous layer of blueberries on top.
Step 8: Chill to Perfection. Cover the trifle dish with plastic wrap and refrigerate for at least 4 hours, or preferably overnight. Chilling is crucial for the flavors to meld and the trifle to set.
Step 9: Garnish and Serve. Before serving, garnish with fresh lemon slices, additional fresh blueberries, and a sprinkle of lemon zest. Serve chilled.

Notes

For best results, prepare this trifle the day before serving to allow the flavors to fully meld and the layers to set perfectly. Adjust sugar levels based on the sweetness of your blueberries and personal preference.
