Ingredients
4 cups fresh broccoli florets, cut into small pieces
4 cups fresh cauliflower florets, cut into small pieces
1/2 cup red onion, finely diced
1 cup sharp cheddar cheese, shredded
1/2 cup sunflower seeds
10 slices bacon, cooked and crumbled
1 cup mayonnaise
1/2 cup sour cream
1/4 cup sugar
2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
Instructions
Step 1: In a large mixing bowl, combine the small broccoli florets, cauliflower florets, diced red onion, shredded cheddar cheese, and sunflower seeds.
Step 2: In a medium bowl, whisk together the mayonnaise, sour cream, sugar, apple cider vinegar, salt, and pepper until the sugar is fully dissolved and the mixture is smooth.
Step 3: Pour the dressing over the vegetable mixture and toss gently until everything is evenly coated.
Step 4: Cover the bowl and refrigerate the broccoli cauliflower salad for at least 1 hour (ideally 2-4 hours) to allow the flavors to meld.
Step 5: Just before serving, stir in the crumbled bacon to ensure it remains crispy, then give the salad one final toss.
Notes
Always use fresh vegetables rather than frozen to maintain the necessary crunch. For a healthier version, you can substitute the sugar with honey or a low-carb sweetener.
