Ingredients
1 tbsp dried butterfly pea flowers
1 cup hot water
Optional: lemon or lime juice for color change
Optional: sweetener (honey, maple syrup, or sugar) to taste
Instructions
Step 1: Gather your ingredients. You’ll need about 1 tablespoon of dried butterfly pea flowers for every 1 cup of hot water.
Step 2: Bring your water to a boil. It’s important that the water is hot enough to extract the color effectively.
Step 3: Place the dried butterfly pea flowers in a heat-proof mug or jar. Pour the hot water over the flowers.
Step 4: Allow the flowers to steep for 5-10 minutes. The longer you steep, the deeper the blue color will be. You can even steep for longer if you want a very concentrated blue.
Step 5: Strain the liquid to remove the flowers. You now have a beautiful, vibrant blue butterfly pea flower tea!
Step 6: To experiment with the color change, pour a small amount of the blue tea into another glass. Slowly add a few drops of lemon or lime juice and watch the enchanting transformation from blue to purple or pink before your eyes!
Notes
For a stronger color concentrate, use more flowers and steep for a longer duration. Store any leftover concentrate in the refrigerator for up to a week in an airtight container.
