Ingredients
3 cups Corn Chex cereal
3 cups Rice Chex cereal
3 cups Wheat Chex cereal
1 cup mixed nuts (pecans, cashews, peanuts work well)
1 cup bite-size pretzels
1/2 cup butter, melted
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 1/2 teaspoons seasoned salt
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional, but recommended)
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C). In a large roasting pan or two large baking sheets, combine the Corn Chex, Rice Chex, Wheat Chex, mixed nuts, and pretzels. Gently toss to combine.
Step 2: In a small microwave-safe bowl, melt the butter. Stir in the Worcestershire sauce, seasoned salt, garlic powder, onion powder, and smoked paprika (if using). Mix until all the seasonings are well combined.
Step 3: Pour the melted butter mixture evenly over the cereal mixture in the roasting pan. Stir very gently with a large spoon or spatula, ensuring all ingredients are as evenly coated as possible. It might take a few minutes to get everything covered.
Step 4: Bake for 1 hour, stirring every 15 minutes to ensure even toasting and to prevent burning. This constant stirring is crucial for that perfect crunch and flavor distribution in all Chex mix recipes.
Step 5: After 1 hour, remove the Chex mix from the oven. Spread it out on sheets of parchment paper or waxed paper to cool completely. It will crisp up further as it cools.
Step 6: Once fully cooled, store the Chex mix in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 weeks. Enjoy your delicious homemade snack!
Notes
For extra crispiness, ensure you stir the mix every 15 minutes during baking. If you like a slightly spicier kick, add a pinch of cayenne pepper to the butter mixture.
