Classic Chewy Chocolate Chip Cookies

Indulge in the ultimate homemade classic chewy chocolate chip cookies, featuring golden-brown edges, a perfectly soft and gooey center, and rich, melty chocolate pockets. This foolproof recipe brings timeless comfort to your kitchen.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 24 cookies 1x

Ingredients

Scale

1 cup (226g) unsalted butter, softened
3/4 cup (150g) granulated sugar
3/4 cup (160g) packed light brown sugar
2 large eggs
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
2 1/4 cups (270g) all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 cups (255g) semi-sweet chocolate chips (or a mix of chips and chunks)

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C). Line two baking sheets with parchment paper or silicone baking mats.
Step 2: In a large bowl, cream together the softened butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar with an electric mixer until light and fluffy, about 2-3 minutes. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.
Step 3: Beat in the eggs one at a time, mixing well after each addition. Stir in the vanilla extract until just combined.
Step 4: In a separate medium bowl, whisk together the all-purpose flour, baking soda, and salt.
Step 5: Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing on low speed until just combined. Be careful not to overmix the dough.
Step 6: Fold in the chocolate chips (or chunks) with a rubber spatula until evenly distributed throughout the dough.
Step 7: Drop rounded tablespoons of dough (or use a 1.5-inch cookie scoop) onto the prepared baking sheets, spacing them about 2 inches apart.
Step 8: Bake for 9-12 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and the centers are still slightly soft and set. The exact time will depend on your oven and desired cookie texture.
Step 9: Let the cookies cool on the baking sheets for 5 minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely. Enjoy your perfect chocolate chip cookies!

Notes

For an even richer flavor and thicker cookies, chill the dough for at least 30 minutes, or up to 24 hours, before baking. This allows the flavors to meld and reduces spreading. A sprinkle of flaky sea salt on top right after baking enhances the chocolate flavor beautifully.
