Ingredients
1.5 cups warm water
1 tablespoon sugar
2.25 teaspoons active dry yeast
4.5 cups all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons melted butter
0.5 cup baking soda
10 cups water (for boiling)
0.5 cup melted butter (for coating)
0.5 cup granulated sugar
2 tablespoons ground cinnamon
Instructions
Step 1: Combine warm water and 1 tablespoon of sugar in a bowl and sprinkle the yeast on top. Let it sit for 5 minutes until foamy.
Step 2: Add the flour, salt, and 2 tablespoons of melted butter. Mix until a dough forms and knead for 5 minutes until smooth.
Step 3: Place the dough in a greased bowl, cover, and let it rise in a warm place for about 1 hour until doubled in size.
Step 4: Preheat your oven to 450°F (230°C). Bring 10 cups of water and the baking soda to a rolling boil.
Step 5: Divide the dough into 8 pieces. Roll each into a long rope and twist into a pretzel shape.
Step 6: Dip each pretzel into the boiling baking soda water for 30 seconds, then place on a lined baking sheet.
Step 7: Bake for 10-12 minutes until golden brown.
Step 8: Mix the remaining sugar and cinnamon. Brush the warm pretzels with melted butter and roll them in the cinnamon sugar mixture.
Notes
For extra soft pretzels, ensure the water for the yeast is between 105-115°F.
