Ingredients
1.5 lbs ground chuck (80/20 lean-to-fat ratio)
1 tsp kosher salt
1 tsp freshly ground black pepper
1/2 tsp garlic powder
1/2 tsp smoked paprika
4 brioche or potato buns
4 slices sharp cheddar cheese
Optional toppings: Lettuce, tomato, onion, pickles, ketchup, mustard
Instructions
Step 1: Gently break up the cold ground chuck in a large mixing bowl, taking care not to compress the meat.
Step 2: Evenly sprinkle the salt, pepper, garlic powder, and smoked paprika over the meat and fold lightly to combine.
Step 3: Divide the meat into four 6-ounce portions and shape into 1-inch thick patties. Press a thumbprint into the center of each.
Step 4: Preheat your grill to medium-high heat and lightly oil the grates.
Step 5: Grill the patties for 3-4 minutes per side. Do not press down on the burgers while they cook.
Step 6: Add cheese during the last minute of cooking. Remove from grill once cheese is melted and internal temperature reaches 160°F.
Step 7: Toast the buns lightly on the grill and assemble with your favorite toppings.
Notes
Always use 80/20 ground chuck for the best results in these cookout recipes. Leaner meat will result in a drier burger.
