Ingredients
4 medium apples (such as Granny Smith or Honeycrisp)
1 cup all-purpose flour
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
2 large eggs, beaten
1 cup panko breadcrumbs
1/2 cup granulated sugar
Cooking spray
Instructions
Step 1: Wash and slice apples into thin wedges or ‘fries’, removing cores. Soak in lemon water for 5 minutes, then drain and pat completely dry.
Step 2: Prepare three bowls: one with flour, cinnamon, and nutmeg; one with beaten eggs; and one with breadcrumbs and granulated sugar.
Step 3: Dredge each apple slice in the flour mixture, then dip in beaten egg, letting excess drip off. Finally, roll in the breadcrumb-sugar mixture until fully coated.
Step 4: Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for 5 minutes. Lightly spray the basket with cooking spray.
Step 5: Arrange breaded apple fries in a single layer in the air fryer basket, ensuring not to overcrowd. Cook in batches if necessary.
Step 6: Air fry for 10-12 minutes, flipping halfway through, until golden brown and crispy.
Step 7: Remove from air fryer, let cool slightly, and serve warm. Optionally, sprinkle with extra cinnamon sugar.
Notes
For extra sweetness, sprinkle additional cinnamon-sugar over the fries immediately after they come out of the air fryer. Pairs wonderfully with caramel sauce or vanilla yogurt.
