Ingredients
14 oz extra-firm tofu, drained and pressed
1/3 cup cornstarch
3 tbsp neutral oil (avocado or vegetable)
1/4 cup honey
3 tbsp soy sauce (or tamari for gluten-free)
1 tbsp rice vinegar
4 cloves garlic, minced
1 tsp fresh ginger, grated
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)
Green onions and sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
Step 1: Press the tofu for at least 20 minutes using a tofu press or heavy weights to remove all excess moisture.
Step 2: Cut the pressed tofu into 1-inch cubes and toss in a bowl with cornstarch until fully and evenly coated.
Step 3: Heat oil in a large non-stick skillet over medium-high heat. Add the tofu in a single layer and fry for 8-10 minutes, turning occasionally, until all sides are crispy and golden.
Step 4: In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, soy sauce, rice vinegar, minced garlic, and grated ginger.
Step 5: Lower the heat to medium and pour the sauce over the crispy tofu. Toss constantly for 2-3 minutes until the sauce thickens and coats the tofu thoroughly.
Step 6: Remove from heat and garnish with sliced green onions and sesame seeds. Serve immediately.
Notes
Always use extra-firm tofu for this recipe. If you prefer a vegan version, substitute the honey with maple syrup.
