frappe recipe - A tall glass of frothy Greek frappe with thick foam and ice cubes.

Classic Greek-Style Frappe

A frothy, refreshing, and incredibly easy-to-make chilled coffee drink that uses a special frothing technique for a velvet-thick foam.

  • Total Time: 2 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving 1x

Ingredients

Scale

2 teaspoons instant spray-dried coffee
1–2 teaspoons granulated sugar (optional)
2 tablespoons room temperature water
1 cup ice cubes
Cold water or milk to fill
Optional: Whipped cream for topping

Instructions

Step 1: Combine the instant coffee, sugar, and 2 tablespoons of water in a tall glass or a shaker.
Step 2: Use a handheld milk frother to blend the mixture for 30-60 seconds until a thick, light-brown foam forms.
Step 3: If using a shaker, close the lid tightly and shake vigorously for 1-2 minutes until the foam is stiff.
Step 4: Add ice cubes to the glass, filling it about halfway.
Step 5: Slowly pour in cold water or your choice of milk, leaving room for the foam to rise to the top.
Step 6: Stir gently with a straw to incorporate the layers without collapsing the foam and enjoy immediately.

Notes

Always use spray-dried instant coffee for the best foam; freeze-dried coffee does not froth as effectively.
