Ingredients
1 small head of cabbage, chopped
1 pound smoked sausage (such as kielbasa), sliced
1 pound shrimp, peeled and deveined
1 medium onion, sliced
2 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons olive oil
1 teaspoon smoked paprika
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes (optional)
Salt and pepper to taste
Fresh parsley for garnish (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare your ingredients by chopping the cabbage into bite-sized pieces, slicing the smoked sausage into 1/4-inch rounds, and ensuring the shrimp are peeled and deveined.
Step 2: Heat the olive oil in a large skillet or frying pan over medium heat. Add the sliced sausage and cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until browned and heated through. Remove the sausage and set aside, leaving any rendered fat in the pan.
Step 3: Add the sliced onion to the same skillet and cook for 2-3 minutes until softened. Stir in the minced garlic and cook for an additional minute until fragrant.
Step 4: Gradually add the chopped cabbage to the skillet. Cook for 5-7 minutes, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is tender and slightly caramelized.
Step 5: Return the cooked sausage to the skillet. Add the shrimp, smoked paprika, red pepper flakes (if using), salt, and pepper. Cook for 3-4 minutes, stirring frequently, until the shrimp turn pink and opaque.
Step 6: Remove from heat, taste, and adjust seasonings as needed. Garnish with fresh parsley, if desired, and serve hot.
Notes
For best results, pat the shrimp dry before adding to the pan to ensure a good sear. Serve immediately for optimal flavor and texture. This dish pairs wonderfully with a side of cornbread or rice.
