frozen margarita recipes - Classic frozen margarita in a salt-rimmed glass with lime garnish, ready to be enjoyed.

Classic Frozen Margarita

A perfectly blended, icy, and refreshing classic frozen margarita, made with fresh lime juice, quality tequila, and orange liqueur.

  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 2 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

4 oz (1/2 cup) Blanco Tequila
2 oz (1/4 cup) Fresh Lime Juice (from about 23 limes)
1 oz (2 tbsp) Orange Liqueur (Cointreau or Triple Sec)
0.51 oz (12 tbsp) Agave Nectar or Simple Syrup (to taste)
34 cups Ice cubes
Coarse salt or margarita salt for rim (optional)
Lime wheels or wedges for garnish (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Prepare your glasses. If desired, rim your margarita glasses by running a lime wedge around the entire edge, then carefully dipping the rim into a shallow plate of coarse salt or margarita salt. For an extra touch, you can chill your glasses in the freezer for about 10-15 minutes before serving.
Step 2: Combine liquids. In a high-powered blender, add the Blanco tequila, freshly squeezed lime juice, your chosen orange liqueur (such as Cointreau or Triple Sec), and agave nectar or simple syrup. Make sure your lime juice is truly fresh; this is the backbone of any good margarita, especially frozen margarita recipes.
Step 3: Add ice. For two servings, start with approximately 3-4 cups of ice cubes. The amount of ice is absolutely crucial for achieving that perfect, smooth, slushy consistency without it being too watery or too thick.
Step 4: Blend until smooth. Secure the lid tightly on your blender and blend on the highest speed until the mixture is completely smooth and slushy, resembling a fine snow cone. You may need to use the tamper (if your blender has one) or pulse a few times, scraping down the sides with a spatula if necessary, to ensure all ice chunks are incorporated.
Step 5: Taste and adjust. Before serving, pour a small amount onto a spoon and taste it. If it’s too tart, add a little more agave nectar and blend briefly. If it’s too sweet, a splash more lime juice will balance it out. If it’s too thick, a tiny bit more tequila or even a tablespoon of water can help; if it’s too thin, a few more ice cubes and a quick blend will thicken it up.
Step 6: Serve immediately. Once perfected, pour the freshly blended frozen margarita recipes into your prepared, salt-rimmed glasses. Garnish with a fresh lime wheel or wedge for a pop of color and extra zest. These refreshing frozen margaritas are best enjoyed immediately before the ice begins to melt.

Notes

For best results, use a high-powered blender. Adjust sweetness to your preference. If making a larger batch, blend in smaller quantities to maintain consistency. Always use fresh lime juice for the best flavor.
