Ingredients
1 large loaf (16 oz) Italian or French bread, or sourdough
1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened
6–8 cloves garlic, minced (about 2 tablespoons)
1/4 cup fresh parsley, finely chopped
1/2 teaspoon sea salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
Optional: 1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 400°F (200°C). Prepare a baking sheet by lining it with parchment paper or aluminum foil.
Step 2: Slice the bread lengthwise, cutting almost all the way through but leaving the bottom intact to create a hinge, or slice completely through to make individual pieces. If using a baguette, you can slice it into 1-inch thick rounds.
Step 3: In a small bowl, combine the softened unsalted butter, minced garlic, finely chopped fresh parsley, sea salt, and black pepper. Mix thoroughly until all ingredients are well incorporated. If using, stir in the grated Parmesan cheese.
Step 4: Generously spread the garlic butter mixture evenly over the cut surfaces of the bread. Ensure the butter reaches the edges for maximum flavor. For whole loaves, close the bread back up after spreading.
Step 5: If you sliced the bread lengthwise and kept it hinged, wrap the entire loaf loosely in aluminum foil. If you cut the bread into individual slices, arrange them in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
Step 6: Bake the foil-wrapped loaf for 10-12 minutes, or the individual slices for 8-10 minutes, until heated through and the butter has melted. This helps steam the bread slightly, making it soft and infused with flavor.
Step 7: Remove the foil (if applicable) and return the bread to the oven. Bake for an additional 3-5 minutes, or until the edges are golden brown and crispy. Keep a close eye on it to prevent burning the garlic.
Step 8: Once golden and fragrant, remove the garlic bread from the oven. Let it cool for a minute or two before slicing (if still a whole loaf) and serving immediately. Enjoy your perfect garlic bread recipe!
Notes
For an even richer flavor, you can brush the top of the garlic bread with a little olive oil before the final bake. If you prefer a milder garlic flavor, reduce the amount of minced garlic to 4 cloves. This garlic bread recipe is also excellent grilled!
