Ingredients
3 ripe Hass avocados
1/2 small red onion, very finely diced
1–2 cloves garlic, minced (optional)
1/4 cup fresh cilantro, chopped
1–2 jalapeño or serrano peppers, seeded and minced (optional, for heat)
Juice of 1–2 fresh limes (about 2–4 tablespoons)
1/2 teaspoon sea salt, or to taste
1/4 teaspoon black pepper, or to taste
1 small ripe tomato, diced (optional, for chunky texture)
Instructions
Step 1: Halve and pit the avocados. Scoop the flesh into a medium bowl.
Step 2: Using a fork or potato masher, gently mash the avocado flesh to your desired consistency. Leave some chunks for texture, if preferred.
Step 3: Add the finely diced red onion, minced garlic (if using), chopped cilantro, and minced jalapeño or serrano pepper (if using) to the bowl. Stir gently to combine.
Step 4: Squeeze in the fresh lime juice, starting with the juice of one lime. Add the sea salt and black pepper.
Step 5: Mix all ingredients thoroughly but gently. Taste the guacamole and adjust seasonings as needed, adding more lime juice, salt, or pepper to achieve your perfect balance.
Step 6: If using, fold in the diced tomato for an extra layer of flavor and texture.
Step 7: Serve immediately with tortilla chips, or cover tightly with plastic wrap pressed directly onto the surface of the guacamole to prevent browning if storing for later.
Notes
For the best flavor, use ripe Hass avocados and fresh lime juice. To prevent browning, cover the surface of the guacamole directly with plastic wrap, ensuring no air is trapped. A saved avocado pit placed in the bowl can also help.
