Ingredients
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
3/4 cup black cocoa powder
1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1 1/2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
2 large eggs
3/4 cup whole milk
1/2 cup vegetable oil
2 tsp vanilla extract
3/4 cup boiling water or hot coffee
2 cups dark chocolate buttercream frosting
1/2 cup graham cracker crumbs (dyed green)
4 oz dark chocolate melting wafers
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 12-cup muffin tin with black or dark brown liners for your haunted forest cupcakes recipe.
Step 2: In a large bowl, whisk together the flour, black cocoa, sugar, baking powder, baking soda, and salt until well combined.
Step 3: Add the eggs, milk, oil, and vanilla extract. Beat on medium speed for two minutes. Stir in the boiling water or coffee by hand until the haunted forest cupcakes recipe batter is smooth.
Step 4: Pour the batter into the prepared liners, filling each about two-thirds full. Bake for 18-22 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
Step 5: While cupcakes cool, melt the chocolate wafers and pipe tree shapes onto parchment paper. Let them set completely until firm.
Step 6: Frost the cooled cupcakes with black buttercream. Roll the edges in green graham cracker crumbs to simulate moss, then insert the chocolate trees into the center.
Notes
Use black cocoa powder for the darkest color naturally. If trees are fragile, make them slightly thicker at the base.
