Ingredients
1 pound (16 oz) sourdough pretzel nuggets or sticks
1/2 cup vegetable or canola oil
1 tablespoon cayenne pepper (adjust for heat)
1 tablespoon crushed red pepper flakes
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon lemon pepper
1/2 teaspoon dried dill (optional)
Instructions
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 250°F (120°C) and line a large rimmed baking sheet with parchment paper or foil for easy cleanup.
Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the vegetable oil, cayenne pepper, red pepper flakes, garlic powder, onion powder, and lemon pepper until well combined.
Step 3: Add the pretzels to the bowl and use a spatula to toss them thoroughly, ensuring every pretzel is evenly coated with the spicy oil mixture.
Step 4: Spread the coated pretzels in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
Step 5: Bake for 45 minutes, removing the tray every 15 minutes to stir the pretzels. This ensures even roasting and prevents the spices from burning.
Step 6: Remove the baking sheet from the oven and allow the pretzels to cool completely on the pan. They will become crunchier as they cool.
Step 7: Once fully cooled, store your hot and spicy pretzels in an airtight container to maintain freshness.
Notes
If you want less heat, reduce the cayenne pepper to 1 teaspoon. For extra tang, add a teaspoon of dry ranch dressing mix.
