Ingredients
1–2 teaspoons ceremonial grade matcha powder
2 ounces hot water (about 175°F / 80°C)
1–2 tablespoons sweetener of choice (maple syrup, agave, honey)
1 cup milk of choice (oat, almond, whole milk)
Ice cubes
Instructions
Step 1: Sift the matcha powder. Place 1-2 teaspoons of ceremonial grade matcha powder into a small mesh sieve and sift it directly into your matcha bowl or mug to prevent clumps.
Step 2: Add hot water. Pour 2 ounces of hot (not boiling, approx. 175°F / 80°C) water over the sifted matcha powder. Water that is too hot can make the matcha bitter.
Step 3: Whisk the matcha. Using a bamboo whisk (chasen) or a small electric whisk, vigorously whisk the matcha in a ‘W’ or ‘M’ motion until it is completely dissolved, frothy, and no clumps remain (20-30 seconds).
Step 4: Sweeten (if desired). Stir in 1-2 tablespoons of your chosen sweetener into the whisked matcha until fully dissolved. Taste and adjust to your preference.
Step 5: Prepare your glass. Fill a tall serving glass generously with ice cubes.
Step 6: Combine and serve. Pour your sweetened matcha concentrate over the ice. Then, gently pour your milk of choice over the matcha. Stir lightly before enjoying your refreshing iced matcha latte.
Notes
For the best results, always use ceremonial grade matcha powder. Adjust sweetness and milk type to your personal preference. You can also make a large batch of sweetened matcha concentrate and store it in the fridge for up to 2 days for quick assembly.
