Classic Vodka Jello Shot Recipe

This ultimate Jello shot recipe is a vibrant and fun party starter, perfect for any celebration. Easy to make with a smooth, jiggly texture and endless flavor customization options.

  • Total Time: 4 hours 15 minutes (includes chilling)
  • Yield: 24 (1-oz) shots 1x

Ingredients

Scale

One 3-ounce box flavored gelatin (any flavor)
1 cup boiling water
1 cup cold vodka (or other spirit)
Small plastic cups (1-2 oz capacity), with lids if desired
Optional garnishes: whipped cream, sprinkles, fresh fruit, citrus wedges

Instructions

Step 1: Empty one 3 oz packet of Jello powder into a large, heat-proof mixing bowl.
Step 2: Bring 1 cup of water to a rolling boil. Carefully pour the boiling water over the Jello powder in the bowl. Whisk vigorously for at least 2 minutes, or until the gelatin powder is completely dissolved. Ensure there are no visible granules.
Step 3: Add 1 cup of cold vodka (or your chosen cold spirit) to the dissolved Jello mixture. Stir thoroughly to combine all ingredients evenly.
Step 4: Arrange your small plastic shot cups on a baking sheet or tray. Carefully pour the Jello mixture into each cup, filling them approximately three-quarters of the way full. A measuring cup with a spout or a squeeze bottle can make this step cleaner and easier.
Step 5: Transfer the baking sheet with the filled cups to the refrigerator. Chill for at least 2-4 hours, or until the Jello shots are completely set and firm to the touch. For the best consistency, chilling overnight is recommended.
Step 6: Once set, if using, place lids on the shot cups. Store the prepared Jello shots in the refrigerator until you are ready to serve them. Garnish just before serving, if desired.

Notes

For best results, always ensure the Jello powder is fully dissolved in boiling water before adding cold alcohol. Adjust alcohol strength to your preference by substituting some cold alcohol with cold water.
