Ingredients
2 lbs chicken wings (drumettes and wingettes)
1 tbsp olive oil
1 tsp garlic powder
1 tsp onion powder
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp black pepper
For the Mango-Lime Glaze:
1 large ripe mango, peeled and diced (about 1 cup)
Juice of 2 limes (approx. 1/4 cup)
Zest of 1 lime
2 tbsp honey or maple syrup
1 tbsp soy sauce (low sodium preferred)
1/2 tsp red pepper flakes (or to taste)
Optional garnish: Fresh cilantro, chopped green onions
Instructions
Step 1: Prepare the chicken wings. Pat the chicken wings extremely dry with paper towels. This is crucial for crispiness. In a large bowl, toss the dried wings with olive oil, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and black pepper until evenly coated.
Step 2: Prepare the mango-lime glaze. In a blender, combine the diced mango, lime juice, lime zest, honey (or maple syrup), soy sauce, and red pepper flakes. Blend until completely smooth. Taste and adjust sweetness or spice if desired.
Step 3: Simmer the glaze. Pour the blended mango-lime mixture into a small saucepan. Bring to a gentle simmer over medium-low heat, stirring occasionally, for 5-7 minutes, until the sauce slightly thickens and becomes glossy. Set aside, keeping warm.
Step 4: Preheat your air fryer. Preheat your air fryer to 375°F (190°C) for at least 5 minutes. This ensures even cooking and immediate crisping of the Mango & Lime Air Fryer Chicken Wings.
Step 5: Air fry the wings (first batch). Arrange the seasoned chicken wings in a single layer in the air fryer basket. Do not overcrowd; cook in batches if necessary. Overlapping wings will steam instead of crisp.
Step 6: Cook the wings. Air fry for 10-12 minutes, then flip the wings using tongs. Continue to air fry for another 8-10 minutes, or until the wings are deeply golden brown, crispy, and cooked through (internal temperature should reach 165°F or 74°C).
Step 7: Glaze the wings. Once a batch of wings is cooked, transfer them to a large mixing bowl. Pour about half of the warm mango-lime glaze over the wings and toss gently to coat every piece of your Mango & Lime Air Fryer Chicken Wings.
Step 8: Optional second crisping. For an extra sticky and caramelized glaze, you can return the coated wings to the air fryer for an additional 2-3 minutes at 375°F (190°C). This step is optional but highly recommended for the best texture.
Step 9: Repeat for remaining batches. Repeat steps 5-8 for any remaining uncooked wings.
Step 10: Garnish and serve. Transfer the glazed Mango & Lime Air Fryer Chicken Wings to a serving platter. Garnish with fresh cilantro or chopped green onions, and serve immediately with the remaining warm mango-lime glaze on the side for dipping. Enjoy your tropical feast!
Notes
For best results, do not overcrowd your air fryer basket. Cook in batches to ensure maximum crispiness. The drier your wings are before seasoning, the better they will crisp up. You can make the mango-lime glaze ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
