Ingredients
10–12 fresh mint leaves
2 lime wedges
1–2 tablespoons simple syrup (or to taste)
2 ounces (60ml) white rum
Crushed ice
Club soda or sparkling water, to top
Fresh mint sprig, for garnish
Lime wedge, for garnish
Instructions
Step 1: In a sturdy highball glass, place the fresh mint leaves and lime wedges.
Step 2: Gently muddle the mint and lime wedges a few times to release their oils and juice. Be careful not to over-muddle, as this can make the mint bitter.
Step 3: Add 1-2 tablespoons of simple syrup to the glass, adjusting to your preferred level of sweetness.
Step 4: Pour 2 ounces (60ml) of white rum into the glass.
Step 5: Fill the glass completely with crushed ice.
Step 6: Top the drink with club soda or sparkling water until the glass is full.
Step 7: Stir gently with a long spoon to combine all the ingredients and ensure the mint and lime are well distributed.
Step 8: Garnish with a fresh mint sprig (lightly clapped between your hands to release fragrance) and an extra lime wedge.
Step 9: Serve immediately and enjoy your classic mojito.
Notes
For the best results, use fresh ingredients. If you don’t have crushed ice, you can make it by placing ice cubes in a Ziploc bag and gently crushing them with a rolling pin or mallet. Adjust sweetness and sourness to your personal preference.
