Ingredients
1/2 cup rolled oats (old-fashioned)
1 tablespoon chia seeds
1 cup milk (dairy or non-dairy of choice)
1–2 teaspoons maple syrup or honey (adjust to taste)
1/4 teaspoon vanilla extract (optional)
Optional toppings: fresh berries, sliced banana, nuts, seeds, shredded coconut, nut butter, granola
Instructions
Step 1: In a pint-sized mason jar or a small container with a lid, combine the rolled oats and chia seeds. Ensure they are evenly distributed at the bottom.
Step 2: Pour in the milk, maple syrup (or honey), and vanilla extract (if using). This forms the liquid base of your overnight oats recipe.
Step 3: Place the lid on the container and shake vigorously for 30 seconds to 1 minute, making sure all ingredients are thoroughly combined and there are no clumps of oats or chia seeds sticking to the bottom or sides.
Step 4: Refrigerate for at least 4 hours, but preferably overnight (8 hours), allowing the oats and chia seeds to absorb the liquid and thicken to a creamy, pudding-like consistency. This is where the magic of the overnight oats recipe happens!
Step 5: In the morning, give the overnight oats a good stir. If it’s too thick, add a splash more milk until your desired consistency is reached. Stir in or layer your favorite toppings just before serving for the best texture and freshness.
Notes
Feel free to adjust the amount of sweetener to your preference. For an extra protein boost, stir in a scoop of protein powder when mixing the oats. This overnight oats recipe is incredibly versatile!
