Really Good Pretzel Dip

This creamy, savory, and utterly addictive pretzel dip is the ultimate easy party favorite! Made with a blend of cheeses and perfect seasonings, it’s a guaranteed crowd-pleaser that takes minutes to prepare. Serve it with your favorite crunchy pretzels for a snack everyone will rave about.

  • Total Time: 10 minutes
  • Yield: 8-10 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

16 oz (2 blocks) cream cheese, softened
1/2 cup sour cream
1/4 cup mayonnaise
1 cup shredded sharp cheddar cheese
1/2 cup shredded Monterey Jack cheese
2 tablespoons finely chopped chives (optional, for garnish)
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/4 teaspoon smoked paprika (optional)
Salt to taste (start with 1/4 teaspoon)
Pinch of cayenne pepper (optional, for a subtle kick)
Large bag of hard pretzels, for serving

Instructions

Step 1: Ensure your cream cheese is softened to room temperature. This is crucial for a smooth, lump-free dip. Place the softened cream cheese in a large mixing bowl.
Step 2: Add the sour cream and mayonnaise to the bowl with the cream cheese. Using a hand mixer or a sturdy spoon, beat or stir until the mixture is smooth and well combined. Scrape down the sides of the bowl as needed.
Step 3: Stir in the shredded sharp cheddar cheese and Monterey Jack cheese. Gently fold them into the cream cheese mixture until evenly distributed.
Step 4: Now for the flavor! Add the garlic powder, onion powder, black pepper, smoked paprika (if using), and a pinch of cayenne pepper (if desired). Start with 1/4 teaspoon of salt, tasting as you go. Mix everything until just combined. Be careful not to overmix once the cheese is in.
Step 5: Taste the dip and adjust seasonings if necessary. You might want a little more salt, pepper, or a dash more garlic powder. Remember, the pretzels will add saltiness, so don’t overdo it.
Step 6: Transfer the really good pretzel dip to a serving bowl. For best results and to allow the flavors to meld, cover and refrigerate for at least 30 minutes, or up to 2 hours. This chilling time also helps the dip firm up slightly, making it even more enjoyable.
Step 7: Just before serving, sprinkle with fresh chives (if using) for a touch of freshness and color. Serve chilled with a generous selection of your favorite hard pretzels, pretzel crisps, or even fresh vegetables.

Notes

For an extra layer of flavor, consider adding a dash of Worcestershire sauce or a teaspoon of Dijon mustard to the dip mixture. Make sure your cream cheese is at true room temperature; it makes a world of difference in achieving a silky-smooth texture. This dip can be made a day ahead and stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator.
