Ingredients
1/2 cup fresh strawberries, hulled and quartered
6–8 fresh basil leaves
1.5 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
1–2 tablespoons simple syrup (or to taste)
1 cup sparkling water or club soda, chilled
Ice cubes
Fresh strawberry slices and basil sprigs for garnish
Instructions
Step 1: In a sturdy glass or cocktail shaker, combine the quartered strawberries and fresh basil leaves.
Step 2: Gently muddle the strawberries and basil together using a muddler or the back of a spoon. You want to break down the strawberries and release the basil’s oils, but not pulverize them. Aim for a slightly chunky, aromatic mixture.
Step 3: Add the fresh lemon juice and simple syrup to the muddled mixture. Stir well to combine the flavors.
Step 4: Fill two tall glasses with ice cubes.
Step 5: Divide the strawberry-basil mixture evenly between the two glasses.
Step 6: Top each glass with 1/2 cup of chilled sparkling water or club soda.
Step 7: Stir gently to mix, then garnish each spring mocktail with a fresh strawberry slice and a sprig of basil. Serve immediately and enjoy your delicious spring mocktail!
Notes
For an extra touch, you can make a strawberry-basil infused simple syrup by simmering the ingredients with sugar and water, then straining. This intensifies the flavors. You can also adjust the sweetness to your liking.
