summer mocktail recipes - Close-up of a refreshing sparkling berry basil bliss mocktail with fresh berries and basil leaves as garnish.

Sparkling Berry Basil Bliss Mocktail

A vibrant and refreshing alcohol-free mocktail featuring muddled fresh berries, aromatic basil, and sparkling water. Perfect for hot summer days and entertaining.

  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 1 serving 1x

Ingredients

Scale

5–6 fresh mixed berries (strawberries, blueberries, raspberries)
2–3 fresh basil leaves
1–2 oz Berry-Basil Simple Syrup (recipe follows, or 1–2 tsp sugar/agave)
4–6 oz sparkling water or seltzer, chilled
Ice cubes
Optional Garnish: fresh berries, basil sprig, lime wheel

Instructions

Step 1: For the Berry-Basil Simple Syrup (recommended for best flavor): In a small saucepan, combine 1 cup water, 1 cup granulated sugar, and 1/2 cup mixed berries. Bring to a simmer over medium heat, stirring until sugar dissolves. Remove from heat, add 2-3 basil leaves, and let steep for 15-20 minutes. Strain through a fine-mesh sieve, pressing berries. Cool completely. (Skip this step if using direct sugar/agave and just have berries, basil, and sparkling water ready).
Step 2: In a sturdy glass (like a highball or mason jar), add 5-6 fresh berries and 2-3 fresh basil leaves.
Step 3: Gently muddle the berries and basil together to release their juices and aromatic oils. If not using simple syrup, add 1-2 teaspoons of granulated sugar or agave nectar now and muddle to dissolve.
Step 4: Fill the glass generously with ice cubes.
Step 5: Add 1-2 ounces of the prepared Berry-Basil Simple Syrup (adjust to your sweetness preference). If not using syrup, add a squeeze of fresh lime or lemon juice to balance flavors.
Step 6: Top off the glass with chilled sparkling water or seltzer.
Step 7: Stir gently to combine all ingredients. Taste and adjust sweetness if desired.
Step 8: Garnish with a fresh berry skewer, a sprig of basil, or a lime wheel. Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

For a large batch, prepare the berry-basil simple syrup ahead of time and store it in the refrigerator. Guests can then muddle fresh berries and basil in individual glasses, add the syrup, and top with sparkling water. Adjust sweetness to your preference.
