Swicy (Sweet & Spicy) hot honey recipes - A clear glass jar filled with golden Swicy hot honey, infused with red chili flakes, next to a wooden honey dipper.

Ultimate Homemade Swicy Hot Honey

A versatile and incredibly delicious homemade hot honey that perfectly balances sweet and spicy notes. Perfect for drizzling over pizza, fried chicken, roasted vegetables, and so much more. This Swicy (Sweet & Spicy) hot honey recipe is easy to customize to your preferred heat level.

  • Total Time: 15 minutes
  • Yield: 1 cup 1x

Ingredients

Scale

1 cup (240ml) honey (good quality, like wildflower or clover)
1–2 tablespoons dried chili flakes (crushed red pepper, adjust to taste)
1 tablespoon apple cider vinegar (optional, but recommended for balance)
Pinch of salt (optional)

Instructions

Step 1: Combine the honey and chili flakes in a small saucepan. If using, add the apple cider vinegar and a pinch of salt now.
Step 2: Place the saucepan over low heat. Gently warm the mixture, stirring occasionally. Do not boil the honey; aim for a gentle simmer for about 5-10 minutes to infuse the chili flavor.
Step 3: Remove the saucepan from the heat and let the mixture cool completely to room temperature. This allows the chili flakes more time to infuse their heat and flavor into the honey, enhancing the ‘swicy’ profile.
Step 4: Once cooled, you can choose to strain the mixture through a fine-mesh sieve into a clean jar, discarding the chili flakes, for a clear hot honey. Alternatively, for a more rustic and spicier version with extra texture, leave the chili flakes in.
Step 5: Transfer the Swicy hot honey to clean, airtight jars. Store at room temperature in a cool, dark place. It will keep well for several months, ready to elevate all your Swicy (Sweet & Spicy) hot honey recipes!

Notes

Always use good quality honey for the best flavor. Adjust chili flakes to your heat preference. The apple cider vinegar is optional but adds a great balancing tang. Store in an airtight container at room temperature. Do not refrigerate, as honey can crystallize. If crystallization occurs, gently warm the jar in a bowl of warm water until it liquefies again.
