Ultimate Cereal Waffles

A fun and nostalgic breakfast recipe that combines fluffy buttermilk waffles with the sweet crunch of your favorite breakfast cereal.

  • Total Time: 30 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Ingredients

Scale

2 cups all-purpose flour
2 tablespoons cornstarch
2 tablespoons granulated sugar
1 tablespoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 large eggs
1 3/4 cups buttermilk
1/2 cup unsalted butter, melted and cooled
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
1 1/2 cups your favorite cereal (e.g., Fruity Pebbles, Cinnamon Toast Crunch, or Cocoa Puffs)
Optional: Maple syrup, whipped cream, and extra cereal for topping

Instructions

Step 1: Preheat your waffle iron to its medium-high setting to ensure the ultimate cereal waffles get that perfect golden crunch.
Step 2: In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, cornstarch, sugar, baking powder, and salt until well combined.
Step 3: In a separate medium bowl, beat the eggs slightly, then whisk in the buttermilk, melted butter, and vanilla extract.
Step 4: Pour the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients. Stir gently with a spatula until just combined; do not overmix, as small lumps are necessary for fluffy ultimate cereal waffles.
Step 5: Gently fold in 1 cup of the cereal. Save the remaining 1/2 cup for topping the batter once it is in the iron.
Step 6: Pour about 1/2 to 2/3 cup of batter onto the preheated waffle iron. Sprinkle a little extra cereal on top of the wet batter, then close the lid.
Step 7: Cook for 3-5 minutes, or until the waffle iron indicates it is ready and the ultimate cereal waffles are golden brown and crisp.
Step 8: Serve immediately with your favorite toppings and an extra sprinkle of fresh cereal for maximum crunch.

Notes

For the crispiest results, use a Belgian waffle maker and ensure the iron is fully heated before adding the batter.
